HOUSTON–Mattress Firm and Protect-A-Bed have joined forces to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a nationwide organization dedicated to advancing research in pancreatic cancer, and the Translational Genomics Research Institute, a non-profit organization that focuses on early diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases.
During November, Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, a portion of the proceeds of Protect-A-Bed product purchases at Mattress Firm stores will go directly to the two organizations to further fund research in pancreatic cancer. This year, Mattress Firm has also enabled the public to make donations online at firstgiving.com/mattfirmandpab, with all funds raised going directly to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
According to a joint Mattress Firm-Protect-A-Bed statement, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, and has the highest mortality rate of any of the major cancers. Only 5 percent of pancreatic-cancer patients survive longer than five years, the statement said.
