WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.–Four student designers have been designated winners of the Surtex designext competition.
The winners are Keia Barua of the fibers department at Savannah College of Art and design; Jane Bridges of the department of contemporary surface design and textiles at the Bradford School of Arts & Media in the United Kingdom; Melodie Flook of the department of crafts and design at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, Canada; and Louise Tiler of the department of printed textiles and surface pattern at the Leeds College of Art, also in the United Kingdom. The competition challenged students to create a collection of original surface designs to be used in a commercial interior in the year 2020.
The four winners will take part in next month’s Surtex at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York City, from May 15-17. They will display their winning designs to the show’s estimated 6,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors from more than 40 countries.
