RICHMOND, Va.-Carpenter Co. and its sleep-oriented website, sleepbetter.org, have partnered with actress Krysten Ritter in the Great American Pillow Toss, a campaign to encourage Americans to do all they can to sleep better.
Ritter, star of the ABC Network’s “Don’t Trust the B___ in Apt 23,” gave the command to toss the first pillow, which was hurled from a 23-foot-tall catapult, across Campus Martius in downtown Detroit. It was followed by spectators visiting a pop-up showroom to view sleepbetter.org products, take their Zzzz Score (a Carpenter-devised sleep test) and throw away their old pillows via the catapult or a trash-compacting truck. Carpenter then replaced an estimated 200 old pillows with new SleepBetter pillows.
The Great American Pillow Toss will continued through the summer. In addition, consumers can visit the SleepBetter Facebook page (facebook.com/sleepbetter) and sleepbetter.org, and can make a pledge to replace their old bedding. Also, they will be entered to win a contest with cash prizes totaling $4,000.
