NEW YORK–A wide range of product categories, materials and design inspiration will be presented by newcomers to the winter 2011 edition of Accent on Design at the New York International Gift Fair, which takes place Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2011 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here.
Accent on Design, one of 10 categorized divisions of NYIGF, is a juried collection of nearly 200 contemporary and innovative suppliers across all gift, home, and lifestyle categories.
Newcomers selected for participation in the winter 2011 edition of Accent on Design include: Cerno (lighting); Doca Pet (pet accessories); K Studio (home accessories, bags and gifts); Emanuela Duca (jewelry); Ex OVO (jewelry); gdg studios (ceramic home accessories & jewelry); Omni+furniture (home decor & accessories); Suki Cheema (textiles); Sweet Bella (home decor & accessories); and Tina Frey (resin home accessories and jewelry). In addition, three professional design organizations – The American Design Club, JOIN: Design Seattle and the Object Design League from Chicago – will showcase their members’ products.
In addition, roughly 20 artisans newly juried into the Handmade division will showcase innovative uses of traditional materials – particularly wood, glass, and ceramics. NYIGF’s Handmade division features 500 exhibitors, with artists categorized by process and provenance into either Handmade Designer Maker or Handmade Global Design.
The NYIGF will continue its partnership with CRAFT (Craft Retailers and Artists for Tomorrow) to produce two events – “American Craft Week Tutorials” on Jan. 29, and “CRAFT Power Hour” educational round-table sessions, Jan. 30 – 31. The series of eight “Power Hour” sessions will be lead by veteran craft retailers and artists who will share their tips for business success.
Also, New York’s Museum of Arts and Design will have a pop-up shop creating a “cash and carry” retail location on the Javits Center’s North Concourse. The product selection will focus on The Store at MAD’s exclusive craft and design products, and as part of this partnership all buyers and exhibitors will receive free admission to MAD during market week.
