DERBY, England-The royal wedding has been a major boon for high-end tabletop maker Royal Crown Derby, which has nearly sold-out its limited edition commemorative pieces.
The English tabletop company began the design work on commemorative pieces as soon as Prince William and the former Catherine Middleton announced their engagement. Pieces were in production and available before the wedding took place, but sales surged the Monday following the nuptials, according to a Derby spokeswoman. For example, more than 40 percent of sales of an octagonal plate (retailing for $250) came after the wedding. The company has sold out 1,000 loving cups (retailing for $125), 1,500 peacocks and 500 bells, and is in a second production run of its Royal Antoinette Loving Cup ($175) and Tray ($110). Nearly 2,000 heart plates, at $100 apiece, have been sold as well, the spokeswoman said. The heart plates are not limited.
