BENTONVILLE, Ark.-Dan Bartlett, former senior counselor to President George W. Bush, has been named executive vice president of corporate affairs for Walmart.
In his new role, Bartlett oversees external communications, government relations, sustainability and the Walmart Foundation, the retailer’s charitable organization. He reports directly to Mike Duke, president and CEO, and serves as a member of Walmart’s executive council. He is succeeding Leslie Dach, who announced in March that he plans to leave the company next month.
As senior counselor in the Bush administration, Bartlett was responsible for all aspects of the president’s strategic communications planning, formulation of policy and implementation of the president’s agenda. He was also in charge of the White House press office and the offices of communication, media affairs and speech writing, and global communications.
After he left the Bush administration, Bartlett was president and CEO of the U.S. unit of Hill+Knowlton Strategies, the global advisory firm that serves corporations, nonprofits and associations around the world.
