BENTONVILLE, Ark.–In the wake of announcements by Macy’s and Target that both retailers will open their stores for Black Friday at midnight, Walmart has one-upped both of its competitors by announcing that it will hold several Black Friday sales events beginning at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
The Thanksgiving night event will include special deals on Paula Deen cookware (a 20-piece set for $86.44) and on Black & Decker blenders, coffeemakers and electric griddles, each $9.44. There will also be events for toys and apparel. Beginning at midnight on Black Friday, Walmart will hold events centering on electronics such as flat-screen televisions, digital cameras, Blu-ray players and printers.
Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S., said, “Our customers told us they would rather stay up late to shop than get up early, so we’re going to hold special events on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.”
