BENTONVILLE, Ark.-Walmart and The NPD Group have reached an agreement whereby NPD will receive and analyze Walmart’s point-of-sale information in the United States.
Under the terms of the agreement, NPD will obtain sales data from Walmart’s U.S. stores and from walmart.com. The deal covers the home, entertainment, apparel, hardlines and toys product categories.
The agreement is viewed as a plus by both sides. “Our agreement with NPD will provide Walmart with deeper insights into what consumers are buying and what they are looking to buy,” said Cindy Davis, executive vice president of Walmart global consumer insights.
“With Walmart data, we will be able to provide our clients with world-class information and solidify our leadership position as the premier source of market insight in our industries,” said Karyn Schoenbart, NPD’s president and chief operating officer.
