INDIANAPOLIS-Gregg Throgmartin, hhgregg’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, will leave the appliance and electronics retailer on March 31.
The retailer said in a statement that the board of directors, of which Throgmartin is also a member, has accepted his resignation. The statement added that Throgmartin is exiting the company to pursue outside interests and manage family businesses.
Throgmartin, the son of former President and CEO Jerry Throgmartin and great-grandson of Henry Harold Gregg, hhgregg’s founder, joined hhgregg in 2001 and held a number of executive positions for the retailer, including store general manager, regional manager, director of strategic merchandising, vice president of sales and senior vice president of store operations. He was named executive vice president and chief operating officer in September 2009.
Dennis May, hhgregg’s president and CEO, credited Throgmartin for his leadership and contributions to the retailer over the past 13 years. May called Throgmartin “an instrumental member of our leadership team” and cited his role in supporting the growth of hhgregg’s store base as the company strove to become a national retailer.
The statement also said the board will begin a search for a new chief operating officer. In the interim, other hhgregg executives will fulfill Throgmartin’s responsibilities.
