HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.–Sears Holdings is planning a staged rollout of Apple iPads and Apple iPod Touch devices, beginning with about 450 stores nationwide, in a effort to improve customer service and the shopping experience.
With the devices, sales associates will be able to help customers check available inventory, order products online, access product information and videos, and use enhanced purchasing tools to connect shoppers with the products they want. The rollout is being supported by Sears’ Information and Technology Group. Keith Sherwell, senior vice president and chief information officer, said the company is upgrading its entire network and technology infrastructures, an effort that will include enhanced wireless coverage to provide shoppers with free Wi-Fi access. The latter feature will enable customers to use their smart phones or web-enabled devices to surf the Internet, shop online at sears.com or compare prices before they purchase.
