BENTONVILLE, Ark.-Doug McMillon has become the fifth president and CEO of Walmart Stores Inc., the parent company of Walmart U.S., Walmart International and Sam’s Club.
McMillon, who had been president and CEO of Walmart International, was elected to head the world’s largest retailer by the company’s board in November. He officially began his new roles on Feb. 1, succeeding Mike Duke, who has retired but who remains on the board.
McMillon is a Walmart lifer, beginning his career with the company as an hourly sales associate in 1984. He rejoined the company in 1990, while pursuing his master of business administration degree at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma, as assistant manager in a Walmart store in Tulsa. He then worked in a number of executive positions in all of Walmart’s segments, culminating in his selection as president and CEO of Walmart International in February 2009.
