CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.–Ikea plans to add 24 electric vehicle charging stations across eight more of its locations in the United States.
The newly designated sites include seven stores in Illinois, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas, as well as the U.S. corporate office. Installation is expected to begin next month and be completed by the end of this summer. The project is being done in partnership with ECOtality, a company that specializes in electric transportation and storage technologies.
With the completion of the project, Ikea will have a total of 55 charging stations in 16 American stores. Two years ago, Ikea installed units at stores in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.
“Increasing access to EV charging stations advances our goals of helping co-workers and customers—as well as members of the communities in which we operate—live more sustainable lives,” said Mike Ward, Ikea’s U.S. president.
