GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.–Dollar General will make its debut in California with four stores that will open next year.
The stores will mark the 39th state in which Dollar General has a retail presence. Recently, the retailer announced that it will enter three other states for the first time later this year—Connecticut, Nevada and New Hampshire. The plans to expand into California followed store openings in other western states such as Arizona and Colorado in recent years, the company said.
Dollar General’s store count has risen from about 5,000 in 2000 to about 9,500 today, the company said.
