Dollar General Plans 625-Store Expansion for 2012



GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.–Dollar General will open 625 new stores nationwide this year, including its first stores located in California and Massachusetts.

In a company statement, the dollar-store retailer said the store openings will expand its footprint into 40 U.S. states and create 6,000 new jobs. It will also establish Dollar General as a coast-to-coast retailer, with a store count approaching 10,000. Since 2009, the company has created more than 21,000 new jobs.

Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO, said, “We believe the new communities and states we are entering will benefit from our stores’ convenience and value, as well as the jobs and commitment to community our stores bring.”
