YORK, Pa.-The Bon-Ton Stores has named Kathryn Bufano president and CEO effective Aug. 25. Bufano most recently served as Belk Inc.’s president of merchandising.
Bufano will succeed Brendan Hoffman, who chose not to renew his employment agreement. Hoffman resigned as president and CEO and as a member of Bon-Ton’s board, effective with Bufano’s election. A Bon-Ton statement said he will work with Bufano through a transition period.
Belk, meanwhile, has appointed David Zant as Bufano’s successor as president and chief merchandising officer. Zant, who had been general merchandise manager for home, men’s and kids since 2008, will report in his new role directly to Tim Belk, chairman and CEO.
Bufano had been Belk’s president of merchandising since August 2010, and previously served as president of merchandising and marketing from 2008 to 2010. From 2006 to 2008, she was CEO of Vanity Shops. Her career also includes executive posts with Sears, Dress Barn, Macy’s East and Lord & Taylor.
Tim Grumbacher, Bon-Ton’s chairman, said Bufano’s “years of experience in the department store industry will allow her to refine and drive the strategic growth initiatives we have put in place over the last several years.”
Zant joined Belk in 2001 as president of its former central division. He became executive vice president and general merchandise manager of home in 2002.
