RESTON, Va.-Amazon.com topped the list of retail sites with shoppers on smart phones by registering 49.6 million visitors aged 18 and older in July, according to a survey conducted by comScore, the provider of digital analytics.
In terms of visits, Amazon sites were far ahead of Apple (17.7 million visitors), Walmart (16.3 million), Target (10 million) and Best Buy (7.2 million), comScore said. The online retailer also finished number one in terms of reach among smart-phone subscribers aged 18 and older. Amazon’s sites were visited by 46.6 percent of smart-phone subscribers in this age demographic, again well ahead of the number two site, eBay at 30.6 percent.
comScore also said that in July, 85.9 million 18-and-older individuals visited a retail site through a mobile browser or application on their smart phone. “With nearly 86 million Americans now shopping on their smart phones, this pronounced shift in consumer behavior is simply too large for retailers to ignore, with the future of their business depending on how well they adapt to the new environment,” said Mark Donovan, comScore’s senior vice president for mobile.
