NEW YORK-Gilt Home debuted its first private label collection of furniture, rugs and decorative pillows yesterday, which went on sale to members last night at 9 p.m. Designed by Tom Delavan, Gilt Home’s creative director, the collection will be on sale for seven days, and then will become a part of Gilt Home’s permanent line at regular prices.
The reason for an exclusive collection was simple: “We really know our customer—we can give them exactly what they want,” and at the price point and design they want, Delavan told HFN at a preview yesterday. Delavan was inspired by a number of things for this collection, including vintage pieces he’s seen at auction and Danish and Scandinavian mid-century decor.
Delavan’s design touches include a thicker top pillow in the Luca modular sofa for extra comfort, and Bruno, a swivel club chair that doesn’t look like it swivels. The furniture is made in America and the upholstery comes in dark and light neutral color choices. Some of the rugs offered are where the collection brings in color, with several brightly patterned flatweaves. A hemp rug design is colored in several jewel tones, as are some of the decorative pillows. Already Delavan is planning to expand the collection with case goods, lighting, and more upholstery.
During the seven-day sale, 20 percent of the purchase price of each item, up to a $10,000 donation, will go to Habitat for Humanity to assist with its relief effort for people affected by Hurricane Sandy.
