CINCINNATI–Macy’s, Inc. has made several changes to its senior executive leadership team.
Ron Klein, Macy’s chief stores officer, will retire effective March 31, 2012, after 36 years with the company. He will devote the next two months to a smooth transition of the chief stores officer position, the company said. Peter Sachse, Macy’s chief marketing officer and chairman of macys.com, will succeed Klein as Macy’s chief stores officer, effective Feb. 13. Sachse will be responsible for the nationwide portfolio of Macy’s stores, as well as the region and district stores organization and visual merchandising. He will also retain responsibility for the company’s omnichannel strategy, which brings together stores, online and mobile capabilities. He will remain a member of the company’s executive committee and continue to report to Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and CEO.
Jeffrey Gennette, Macy’s chief merchandising officer, will assume additional responsibility for overseeing marketing and macys.com. He will closely coordinate those functions within the company’s My Macy’s localization and omnichannel strategies. Gennette will remain a member of the company’s executive committee and continue to report to Lundgren.
Jeff Kantor, president-merchandising of macys.com, will become chairman of macys.com, effective Feb. 13. Kantor and Kent Anderson, president of macys.com, will continue to oversee Macy’s Internet
business and play a key role in the omnichannel strategy, the company said. Kantor will join the company’s executive committee and report to Gennette.
Martine Reardon, executive vice president for marketing, will succeed Sachse as Macy’s chief marketing officer, effective Feb. 13. In this role, Reardon will be responsible for all marketing, advertising,
creative development, social media, cause marketing, brand public relations, tourism marketing, customer insights and data analysis. She will join the company’s executive committee and report to Gennette.
“These changes reflect the strength of our senior-level talent and the teamwork that drives our company’s key growth strategies - My Macy’s localization, omnichannel, and MAGIC Selling customer engagement,” Lundgren said. “Our organization is deep and experienced, which facilitates our ability to crisply execute strategies and to move quickly to capitalize on new opportunities as they arise.”
Lundgren also noted “the outstanding contributions” Klein made to the company for nearly four decades. “In every position over the years, Ron has led with passion. He keenly understands customers’ needs and how to serve them through stores that are customer-centric and locally focused. Ron and Peter have worked side-by-side for many years, which allows us to move forward without skipping a beat,” he added.
