ALEXANDRIA, Va.–U.S. sales of mattresses rose 2.3 percent on a dollar basis in January, reaching $275.8 million, according to data from the monthly Bedding Barometer provided by the International Sleep Products Association.
The year also started on a positive note regarding unit sales, which gained 2.3 percent over sales in January 2009, totaling 929,022. The average unit selling price for the mattresses sold in January was $295.86, essentially flat compared with January of last year.
The ISPA figures were derived from a survey of 18 U.S. mattress manufacturers, whose combined sales represent 66 percent of the industry’s total sales, ISPA said.
