NEW YORK–Rugs of India has debuted a consumer shopping guide on the new Web site RugsofIndia.com.
Called A Shopper’s Guide to Hand-Woven Rugs from India, the info explains the difference between hand-knotted, hand-tufted and flat-woven rugs as well as other topics. Both the guide and the new Web site are part of the new educational and marketing campaign sponsored by India’s Carpet Export Promotion Council, in cooperation with the U.S.-based Oriental Rug Importers Association.
“The objectives of the Rugs of India campaign are to distinguish the unique craftsmanship of hand-woven Indian rugs from other hand- and machine-made rugs, to make the process of shopping for a hand-woven Indian rug as easy as possible, and to stimulate traffic to area rug retailers,” said Raja Sharma, vice chairman of the Carpet Export Promotion Council.
