DANBURY, Conn.–Ethan Allen Interiors has redirected its U.S. case-goods manufacturing operation to become a made-to-order business.
The manufacturer/retailer said it is switching to individual unit productions and away from large production runs because “our custom capability is one of our strongest assets and a strong point of differentiation,” said Farooq Kathwari, president and chief executive officer of Ethan Allen. Kathwari added that the company has been making affordable custom upholstery in its U.S. workrooms for the past several years, and shipping these products within 30 days. He said Ethan Allen will convert its U.S. case goods to custom “in manageable increments,” beginning with four dining-room collections.
The transition of case goods to custom “will further enhance our ability to provide great products with unparalleled options at affordable prices,” Kathwari said.
