NEW YORK–Sales of organic and environmentally friendly home textiles, which have been growing by double digits in recent years, will continue on a strong upward track through the rest of the decade, according to research from Specialists in Business Information.
The company’s prediction, as spelled out in its report titled “The U.S. Market for Organic and Eco-Friendly Home Textiles,” calls for 40 percent sales growth for this category in the United States alone from 2007 to 2010. Globally, sales for these textiles products will rise from $1.1 billion in 2006 to $6.8 billion in 2010, equating to a more than doubling of the total market each year.
In a statement regarding the research, SBI said organic textiles have benefited from U.S. consumers’ rising interest in organic foods. This has been backed up by the greater attention on organic textiles from major retail chains such as Target and Bed Bath & Beyond, and from brands such as Ralph Lauren Home. Coupled with these trends is the increased diversity in organic textiles products now offered by manufacturers.
