About 90 companies have been accepted in the exhibit, according to a statement from GLM, owner and manager of the Gift Fair. Participation is limited to global gift and home-products suppliers whose products or production processes are eco-friendly, or whose business practices are socially responsible, philanthropic or fair trade oriented. As part of the criteria for acceptance, the Gift Fair has introduced a new zero-tolerance policy for any products with volatile organic compounds, lead, aniline dyes, formaldehyde and chlorine, and polyvinyl chloride, with recommendations for use and disposal.
Along with the exhibit, two seminars will be offered on “green” consumer behavior and sustainable business practices. On Feb. 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m., “Its Easy Being Green … A Conversation with ‘Green Guru’ Scot Case” will detail what motivates consumers to buy green and how to address their needs without overstating the environmental benefits of a product or service. On Feb. 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., the Day Spa Association will present “The Beauty of Green,” which will explore an overall approach to green business—from natural to organic products to energy-efficient and eco-friendly facilities. Both sessions will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
The Gift Fair is scheduled for Jan. 30 through Feb. 4, at the Javits Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94 in New York.
