NEW YORK–The New York spring tabletop show opens today with the promise of newness: a new midweek format; new temporary exhibit space at showroom building 7 W New York; and, for some companies, new leadership.
Market Suites @ 7 W, a temporary exhibition space of 18,000 square feet located within the 7 W New York building in Manhattan, makes its debut. The concept is designed to open new opportunities to enter the New York market throughout the year.
David Sculley assumes the role of interim chief executive officer of Waterford Wedgwood PLC, succeeding Peter Cameron, who last week announced his plans to leave the company. Sculley serves on the company’s board of directors and is the non-executive chairman of both Wedgwood and Royal Doulton.
Rick Fencel will also be meeting and greeting the industry in his new position as CEO of Lladró. Fencel, a former Royal Doulton executive, joined Lladró last month, and said he is happy and excited about the brand’s potential in the United States, already its biggest market.
Although the show officially starts today, there was plenty of activity in the buildings in the beginning of the week as retail meetings got under way. Most vendors appear happy with the new scheduling and on Tuesday were considering their weekend plans.
