Park Named President of LG USA; Kim Tabbed to Lead U.S. Home Appliances

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.–LG Electronics has reset its U.S. organization with the appointments of Wayne Park as president of LG Electronics USA and Sam Kim as head of the U.S. division’s home-appliances business unit.

Both executives are long-standing veterans with LG. Park, whose LG career spans 28 years, had been head of LG Electronics North America since January. He succeeds James Shad, who is leaving the U.S. organization this month. Also since January, Kim—whose LG career began in 1988—had been North American regional business leader for refrigerators.

Messner Appointed VP of Government Relations for AHAM

WASHINGTON–Kevin Messner has been named vice president of government affairs for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.
Messner is responsible for directing AHAM’s legislative, regulatory, political and grass-roots programs. He reports directly to Joseph McGuire, the association’s president. Messner succeeds David Calabrese, who left the association to become vice president of public affairs for the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute.

LG Sets New Leadership in North America

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.-LG Electronics has appointed new executives to lead its North America subsidiary.
Wayne Park has been named president and chief executive officer of LG Electronics North America, and will succeed the retiring Michael Ahn on Feb. 1, 2010. James N. Shad will assume the post of president of LG Electronics USA on Jan. 15, succeeding Teddy Hwang, who has been named executive vice president of global sales and marketing for LG Electronics Air Conditioning Co.

Todman, Bitzer Promoted at Whirlpool

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.–Michael Todman, president of Whirlpool North America, has been named president of Whirlpool International, while Marc Bitzer, currently executive vice president of Whirlpool Corp., will succeed Todman.

McGuire Named to ANSI Board of Directors

WASHINGTON–Joseph McGuire, president of the Association of Home Appliances Manufacturers, has been elected to the board of directors of the American National Standards Institute.
McGuire will begin his three-year term on the ANSI board on Jan. 1. The institute is a private, non-profit organization that oversees the creation and use of standards and guidelines for a variety of industries. AHAM is a standards development organization accredited by ANSI and maintains 19 performance standards, most of which are also accredited by ANSI, according to an AHAM statement.

Szczupak Named Executive VP of Whirlpool Unit

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.–David Szczupak has been appointed executive vice president of the Global Product Organization for Whirlpool.
The move puts Szczupak in charge of the company’s global product businesses and strategic sourcing. He reports directly to Jeff Fettig, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, and succeeds Mike Thieneman, who has retired.

Thieneman to Retire From Whirlpool

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.–Mike Thieneman, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Whirlpool, will retire on June 30.
A 31-year veteran of the appliances manufacturer, Thieneman held executive positions in several of the company’s departments. He assumed his current titles in June 2000, and also served as president and chief executive officer of Inglis Ltd. (later Whirlpool Canada), president of Whirlpool Compressor Operations, corporate vice president of global procurement operations and executive vice president of the North American region.
