GREENWOOD, Miss.-Middleby Corp., a manufacturer of commercial cooking, food-processing and packaging equipment for the food-service industry, has purchased Viking Range Corp.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a statement issued by both companies. Selim Bassoul, Middleby’s chairman and CEO, said Viking Range will maintain its headquarters and operations here. Fred Carl Jr., Viking’s founder, president and CEO, will remain in his post.

CHICAGO–The James Dyson Foundation has begun its search for the most ingenious inventions by international engineering students to compete for the 2010 James Dyson Award.
Named after the celebrated inventor and founder of the company that bears his name, the Dyson Foundation conducts this competition every year. Last year’s winner was Automist, a kitchen-sink attachment that detects and extinguishes fires with a fine water mist. Jarden Goes From Loss to Profit in Fourth Quarter

RYE, N.Y.--Jarden reported net income of $1.2 million, reversing a net loss of $170 million from the fourth quarter of one year ago.
The bottom-line results included a non-cash impairment charge of $22.9 million for the 2009 fourth quarter, compared to a similar charge of $283 million for the fourth quarter of 2008. Without these charges, Jarden’s fourth-quarter 2009 net income was $68.5 million, up 9.3 percent from last year’s profit minus the charge.

NEW YORK–Share prices for Newell Rubbermaid stock rose yesterday morning as rumors circulated that Procter & Gamble might be interested in purchasing the manufacturer, according to a report from Barrons.com.
Spokespersons with both companies declined to comment on a potential deal. The report said the boards of directors for both companies “met earlier,” and that Newell is seeking at least $21 or $22 a share.

ATLANTA–Thanks in part to an increase in global sales of Remington-branded products, fourth-quarter financial results improved for the global batteries and personal-care segment of Spectrum Brands, Remington’s parent company.
The segment’s profit for the fourth quarter rose 6.2 percent to $57.9 million, on a sales gain of 5.8 percent to $423.6 million. The segment’s results contrasted with the overall performance of Spectrum, which reported a net loss of $492.6 million for the quarter.

Barbecue Grill Shipments Reach Record High

ATLANTA–Total barbecue-grill shipments in the United States topped 17.4 million in 2007, reaching the highest total since the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association began tallying shipments in 1985.
Total shipments rose by less than 1 percent over 2006. As in previous years, gas grills accounted for the lion’s share of shipments in 2007, totaling 10.3 million units. Charcoal-grill shipments finished last year at 6.9 million units, while shipments of electric grills reached 287,000.

Jarden Ends 2007 on Positive Note; Net Rises 25 Percent

RYE, N.Y.–Jarden Corp., the parent company of housewares giant Jarden Consumer Solutions, posted a 25 percent gain in net income for fiscal year 2007.
After adjustments for profit from its K2 and Pure Fishing acquisitions, which occurred last year, the company’s net income was $211.6 million, compared with $169.3 million for 2006. Net sales reached $4.7 billion, or 21 percent ahead of 2006, and a new record, according to Martin Franklin, chairman and chief executive officer. Operating income was $480.5 million after the adjustments, up 26.7 percent.

MIRAMAR, Fla.--One day after the announcement of its pending acquisition by Spectrum Brands, Russell Hobbs has unveiled a plan to expand its iconic George Foreman brand into new product categories.

Positive Fourth-Quarter Sales for Appliances Bring Hope for 2010, NPD Says

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.–The pickup in fourth-quarter 2009 sales of large and small appliances offer promise of further growth this year, according to The NPD Group.
The market-research firm’s consumer tracking service showed that sales of small appliances jumped 14 percent on a dollar basis over the fourth quarter of 2008, and unit sales were up 20 percent. The top categories were upright vacuums, drip coffeemakers and heaters, NPD said. The one negative that emerged from the company’s research was a 2 percent drop in average unit selling prices for all small appliances.

ECULLY CEDEX, France.–Groupe SEB reported its sales for 2009 totalling $4,489 million, or a decline of 1.6 percent, and a slight increase at constant exchange rates.
Its North American business, which includes the U.S., Mexico and Canada, fell 11.4 percent in current exchange rates, or 12.6 in constant exchange rates, for 2009 sales of $493 million. RYE, N.Y.–Fourth-quarter revenue for Jarden should total about $1.35 billion—ahead of the company’s expectations, according to a preliminary statement from the manufacturer.
Previously, the company had forecast fourth-quarter revenue to reach $1.3 billion. Jarden also said it expects revenue for the full 2009 fiscal year to be $5.1 billion—which, assuming the company achieves this total, would represent a decline of about 5.6 percent from 2008 revenue. Ken Coleman, 86

NEW YORK -- Ken Coleman, a long-time member of the housewares industry, passed away on Dec. 24 following a long illness. He was 86.

During the course of his career, Coleman worked on both the retail and vendor sides of the business, starting off at Neisner's Brothers, before joining Mirro. His last position in the business was as a sales representative in the New York area where he worked with many retailers, including Lechters and Caldor.

Coleman was also a decorated soldier during World War II, receiving three Purple Hearts and 14 battle ribbons.

Range Kleen Founder Passes Away

LIMA, Ohio–Gerald O’Connor, founder and president emeritus of Range Kleen Mfg., passed away Dec. 11 in his home in Ocala, Fla. He was 85 years old.
O’Connor founded the company in 1971 here, taking his range parts start up to the retail aftermarket to build a leading brand of range accessories sold to retailers nationwide. The company now also offers cookware, bakeware, and other kitchen and cleaning products. O’Connor retired from the business in 2003.

NEW YORK–GLM and the International Housewares Association have ended their discussions to possibly work together on housewares-oriented shows, according to a joint statement. Meanwhile, GLM announced it is moving its Gourmet Housewares Show to January 2011, where it will become an annual section of the Winter New York International Gift Fair.
There will not be a Gourmet Housewares Show in San Francisco in summer 2010, as previously planned.

CLEVELAND–Saeco USA has released an application for iPhones geared toward coffee equipment.
The application connects iPhone users directly with Saeco products. Hamilton Beach Net Jumps 431 Percent in Third Quarter

CLEVELAND–Third-quarter net income for Hamilton Beach totaled $6.9 million, 431 percent ahead of the third quarter of 2008.
According to a statement from NACCO Industries, the housewares brand’s parent company, Hamilton Beach’s bottom line benefited from reduced product costs, increased sales of higher-priced and higher-margin products, lesser freight costs and the brand’s cost-containment initiatives. All of these factors offset a 14 percent drop in sales for the quarter, which totaled $118.9 million.

Conti Steps Down as Wilton CEO

WOODRIDGE, Ill.–Richard Conti has resigned as chief executive officer of Wilton Brands.
Jerry W. Levin, the company’s chairman, will serve as interim CEO. A Wilton statement said a search has already begun for Conti’s replacement.
The resignation occurred two weeks after Wilton Holdings, the company’s parent, reached an agreement with TowerBrook Capital Partners and Deutsche Bank Trust Co., the company’s largest creditors, to recapitalize Wilton Holdings with TowerBrook and Deutsche Bank Trust becoming its majority owners.

Electrolux Net Jumps 93 Percent in Third Quarter

STOCKHOLM, Sweden–Net income for Electrolux in the third quarter reached $223.9 million, up 93 percent from the third quarter of 2008.
“Cost savings, maintained prices and lower costs for raw materials contributed strongly to the improvement in income,” the company said in a statement. Net sales dropped 3 percent in the quarter to $3.8 billion. However, Electrolux did benefit from previous price increases, lower costs for raw materials and “low levels of marketing investments,” the company said.

Ronco Reports $2 Million EBITDA in Third Quarter

NEW YORK-Ronco posted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $2 million in the third quarter.
Year to date, the company said in a statement, EBITDA totaled $3.4 million on about $16.2 million in revenues. This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of increased sales and profits, the company said. Ronco added that it has also increased its retail reach in distribution channels ranging from mass merchants to specialty stores and drug stores.

The company managed this bottom-line surge on a gain of 5.6 percent in net sales for the quarter, which totaled $162.2 million. This pickup included a 7.3 percent increase in sales for the company’s housewares segment, and a 4.9 percent rise in sales for the personal-care sector. KEWASKUM, Wis.–Regal Ware’s Kitchen Fair brand will star in its own segment on the Discovery Channel’s new show, Factory Made, on Friday. It’s scheduled to air during one of the two shows to be broadcast that evening, at 8 and 8:30 p.m.

NEW YORK–In a recent Consumer Reports article on cookware sets, the Swiss Diamond Reinforced non-stick pans were deemed to be the “best performers overall.” The magazine said it tested 32 models and picked ten for its Select Ratings. The Swiss Diamond pans were not included in that category, the magazine said, because they were priced above the price range being considered.

RYE, N.Y.—Jarden reported a 4.4 percent gain in its second-quarter net income, to $44.9 million.
This figure included adjustments according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for costs related to reorganization, acquisitions, amortization and tax adjustments. WATERBURY, Vt.–Conair Corp., parent company of Cuisinart, and Keurig have formed a licensing and distribution agreement whereby Conair will develop, market and sell single-cup coffeemakers co-branded under the Cuisinart and Keurig names.
The coffeemakers will be launched in spring 2010, and will be designed to work with Keurig’s patented K-Cup packs of coffees, teas and hot cocoa. Other terms of the agreement were not disclosed, according to a statement from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, parent of Keurig.

WASHINGTON–Electrolux and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission have recalled about 320,000 vacuums under the Ergorapido, Pronto and Precision brand names.
According to a CPSC statement, the products have been recalled because the batteries could expand and burst, posing an injury risk. Electrolux has received 34 reports of incidents involving damage to the vacuums and surrounding property. There have been two reports of minor injuries.

SAN FRANCISCO–Williams-Sonoma saw its fourth quarter net income sink 90 percent as revenues fell at each format, with Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma Home posting the sharpest declines.
To compete in what executives described as “a new world” of shoppers seeking value, the retailer is lowering its price points and driving monthly promotions.
For the fourth quarter ended Feb. 1, net revenues fell 26.7 percent to $1.01 billion. Comp-store sales decreased 22.3 percent.
Net income plummeted 90 percent to $12.2 million from $124.6 million in the year ago quarter.

Hamilton Beach Down 48 Percent for Quarter

CLEVELAND–Fourth-quarter net income for Hamilton Beach totaled $6.6 million, down 48 percent from the last quarter of 2007, according to results released by NACCO Industries, parent company of the housewares brand.
The unit felt the impact of a 7 percent decline in revenues to $186.5 million, rising product and freight costs, lower unit volumes and reduced sales of higher-margin products. Unit sales suffered from “a significant drop” in consumer spending throughout the world, NACCO said.

ISSAQUAH, Wash.-The poor economy, higher markdowns and weak performance of non-food categories conspired to push Costco’s net income down 27 percent in the second quarter, although small electrics emerged as a bright spot, said Richard Galanti, chief executive officer, during a conference call.
For the second quarter ended Feb. 15, Costco’s net income fell 27 percent to $239.7 million from the year ago period. Net sales fell one percent, to $16.49 billion. Comp-store sales fell 3 percent.

FRANKFURT, German–Ambiente, one of Europe’s largest trade fairs, will have a new look next year as organizer Messe Frankfurt opens a new hall and redesigns the existing floor plan.
As a result, the tabletop and housewares sections of the fair will no longer be located in Halls 10 and 9, respectively.
The restructuring will enable Messe Frankfurt to give a sharper focus to the individual sections of the show, which are grouped under the categories of “living,” “giving” and “dining.” Tabletop and housewares fall under the “dining” group.

FRANKFURT, Germany–Tabletop and housewares vendors worked hard to maintain a positive stance at Ambiente, which wraps up here today.
Show organizer Messe Frankfurt said that overall Ambiente 2009 was on par with last year’s show, though it acknowledged that growth has flattened after years of increases.
Vendors across all categories were determined to position themselves for when the economy eventually rebounds.

ATLANTA–The drop in consumer spending and the sagging economy resulted in a deep income and sales drop for the fourth quarter for Newell Rubbermaid, the company reported. Net income fell to a negative $256.7 million, or a negative 17.7 percent of sales, for the quarter ended December 31, 2008, compared to the prior year. Consistent with the updated guidance provided by the company, net sales declined 11.6 percent to $1.45 billion in the fourth quarter, compared to $1.64 billion in 2007.

ROSEMONT, Ill.–Registration for the International Home & Housewares Show by U.S. and Canadian retail buyers, to date, has risen significantly, according to the International Housewares Association, the sponsor of the show.
Registration by U.S. attendees is up 10 percent, and registration by Canadian buyers has increased 8 percent, according to an IHA statement. Jarden Forecasts Fourth-Quarter Revenue at $1.3 Billion

RYE, N.Y.–Jarden expects its revenue for the fourth quarter to total $1.3 billion, slightly ahead of its previous guidance for the quarter, which it provided in early December.
In a statement issued this morning, the housewares giant said it now expects revenue for all of 2008 to equal $5.35 billion. If these predictions prove true, it would mean that Jarden’s fourth-quarter revenue would have declined by about 13 percent versus the fourth quarter of 2007, while its full-year revenue would have increased by nearly 15 percent over the prior year.

Newell Rubbermaid Revises Q4 Outlook; Announces Personnel Change

ATLANTA–Newell Rubbermaid revised its outlook for the fourth quarter, based on the continuing economic troubles and the impact that it’s had on its retail partners. Newell is now estimating its fourth-quarter normalized earnings to be between 6 cents to 10 cents per diluted share, compared with its previous guidance of 29 cents to 34 cents per diluted share. For the full year of 2008, it expects normalized earnings of between $1.17 and $1.21 per diluted share, instead of the previous guidance of $1.40 to $1.45 per diluted share.

BOULDER, Colo.–AeroGrow will reduce its work force by 35 as it looks to meet the challenges of a difficult marketplace.
The reductions will include managers, salaried and hourly employees, and contract workers, a company statement said. As of Dec. 1, the manufacturer of indoor gardening products numbered 100 full-time employees. The statement said the job cuts are expected to result in $2 million in annual savings.

NEW YORK–For the first full week of December, weekly chain-store sales fell 0.8 percent, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs’ weekly sales index.
“Over the last week, the completion rate of holiday gift-buying fell behind last year and with it holiday spending,” said Michael Niemira, ICSC’s chief economist, in a statement.
“The tough economic retail environment … is likely to dominate the full month’s performance.”

Jarden Forecasts Sales Drop for Fourth Quarter

RYE, N.Y.–Jarden said it expects its fourth-quarter revenue to total about $1.3 billion, which would be more than 11 percent below its fourth-quarter revenue of 2007.
If the consumer-products giant’s projection comes to pass, its total revenue for all of 2008 would be about $5.3 billion, or about 14 percent ahead of 2007. In a statement released this morning, Jarden said it also expects 2009 total revenue to exceed $5 billion. Also, recent declines in raw-material commodity costs should improve the company’s margins in the second half of next year.

“When we expanded the gift market in the early 1990s, we had the savings and loan crisis. When we did the apparel mart expansion, it was when the Internet collapsed.

CLEVELAND–Third-quarter net income for Hamilton Beach totaled $1.2 million, down 81 percent from the third quarter of last year.
Increased costs for product and freight, along with depressed sales for higher-margin products and adverse currency fluctuations, were to blame for the poor results, according to a statement from NACCO Industries, Hamilton Beach’s parent company. Net sales for the housewares brand were $138.2 million in the third quarter, off 1.6 percent from third-quarter net sales in 2007.

HOUSTON–Rowenta held its Iron-a-thon yesterday at the Houston Quilt Festival to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
More than 200 people participated, with each contestant donating $5 to enter the competition. Each participant displayed his or her skills at ironing a pink shirt. Also, Rowenta is selling its Pink Iron at the festival, with all of the profits going to the foundation.

ATLANTA–Newell Rubbermaid reported income from continuing operations of $55 million for the third quarter, down 68 percent from $169.9 million last year.
Net sales grew 4.3 percent to $1.76 billion for the quarter, compared to $1.69 billion for the same period in 2007. Internal sales growth, which excludes the effect of significant acquisitions, was 0.4 percent. The company’s Home & Family segment saw double-digit growth, and its Rubbermaid Food business high single-digit growth, which were offset by softness in North American Tools & Hardware, Office Products and Decor.

RYE, N.Y.–Third-quarter net income rose and net sales set a new record for Jarden as all three of its business segments contributed positive results.
Net income finished the quarter at $63.8 million, compared to $21.2 million for the third quarter of 2007, figures that included adjustments for reorganization, integration costs related to last year’s acquisitions of Pure Fishing and K2, and amortization of acquired intangible assets. Without these adjustments, third-quarter net income was $74.9 million, up nearly 25 percent over last year.

HONG KONG–Global sales at TTI Floor Care, the parent company of the Hoover and Dirt Devil vacuum brands, rose 6.8 percent in the first half of 2008.
According to a statement by the company’s parent, Techtronic Industries Co., the sales growth in the floor-care unit resulted from the turnaround of the Hoover brand and growth throughout the world. The turnaround helped boost Techtronic Industries’ earnings before restructuring and transition costs by 7.1 percent.

According to a company statement, the new name “reflects the growing importance of Jura-Capresso automatic coffee centers in the company’s line, while containing both of the brand names associated with its high-end coffee equipment for the home.”

Dirt Devil Accessory Tools Recalled

WASHINGTON–The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and TTI Floor Care North America have issued a recall of Dirt Devil Turbo Tool/Power Brush attachment tools.
According to a statement from the CPSC, plastic pieces inside the vacuum tool can break apart and be thrown out of the tool, creating a laceration hazard. TTI has received 140 reports of incidents involving the tool, including 12 reports of injuries, the statement said. The attachment was sold as an accessory to several models of the Dirt Devil.

Decorate Life Sees 70,000 Visitors

FRANKFURT, Germany–Messe Frankfurt reported 70,000 people attended the recent Decorate Life show, the new trade show that combines Tendence with several others, and held during a new time period in early July.
Attendees from outside Germany rose to 35 percent, compared with Tendence 2007, the show organization said in a statement. In addition, 88 percent of visitors said they achieved their goals for the show and were satisfied with the product they saw at the show.

RYE, N.Y.–Jarden Corp. today reported a leap in profits for the first quarter ended March 31 to $4.7 million, up more than three-fold from the $1.4 million during the same period the year before.
That translated to a growth in earnings per share to 6 cents, up three times as much as the 2 cents in the year-ago period.
Although total sales grew more than 48 percent to $1.2 billion, home sales were down. At Jarden, home products are contained in the segment known as Consumer Solutions.

LAS VEGAS–The Gourmet Housewares Show is in it’s second day here, after a stop last year in Orlando, Fla.
“We’re very pleased with what we’ve seen so far,” said Susan Corwin, GLM vice president and show manager. “It was gratifying to see the long line at registration” the first morning. Even with the challenging business climate, “Manufacturers are using the show to make fall introductions,” she added.
Some exhibitors had been “wary and conservative” initially, Corwin said, but already she has heard from several that they want to move to bigger booths next year.

Hamilton Beach Posts $2.8 Million Loss for First Quarter

CLEVELAND–The Hamilton Beach unit of NACCO Industries reported a net loss of $2.8 million for the first quarter, compared with a net loss of $100,000 for the prior year.
According to a statement from NACCO, the loss resulted from lower sales volumes and increased product costs that were not fully offset by price increases. In addition, Hamilton Beach’s bottom line suffered from increased interest expense, which was primarily due to an increase in borrowings related to a special cash dividend of $110 million paid out in May 2007.

Tuesday Morning Reports Loss in 3rd Quarter

DALLAS–Blaming a “slump in the home furnishings sector,” Tuesday Morning, the large discounter of upscale housewares, today reported a third-quarter loss of $4.7 million, based on a 5.7 percent drop in sales compared with the same period the year before.
For the quarter, which ended March 31, the retailer’s 11 cents loss per diluted share compared with a gain of 3 cents in the year-ago period.
Total sales for the period were $178.4 million, down from $189.15 million a year ago, and comparable-store sales were down 8.2 percent.

RYE, N.Y.–Jarden Corp.’s first-quarter sales skyrocketed by about 47 percent to $1.2 billion, according to a brief preliminary statement from the company.
In the statement, described as an “update,” Martin Franklin, chairman and chief executive officer, said Jarden’s performance reflected “the strength of our leading brands and the defensible nature of our core categories.” Franklin added that the company’s Outdoor Solutions unit showed organic growth in the quarter, while its other business segments registered year-over-year sales declines.

The details of the loan appeared in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission made Tuesday. One week ago, the Stewart organization completed its acquisition of Emeril Lagasse’s business—including the celebrity chef’s television programming, cookbooks, Web site, and licensed kitchen and food products—for $50 million at the closing. The purchase price could reach $70 million if certain performance targets are met by 2011 and 2012.

According to a statement from Green Mountain, Lazaris is leaving the company to pursue other career opportunities, and has entered into a separation and transition agreement with Keurig. Under the terms of this agreement, Lazaris will continue as Keurig’s president until June 16 or the date on which a successor assumes the post, and will continue as a Keurig employee until Aug. 15. Meanwhile, the company has begun a search process for Lazaris’ successor.

Small Appliances Register 4.6 Percent Sales Gain in 2007

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.–U.S. sales of small appliances reached $15.7 billion in 2007, 4.6 percent ahead of 2006, according to recently released data from The NPD Group.
The industry achieved this gain despite the fact that the nation is in “a consumer recession,” according to Peter Goldman, NPD’s president of home. “Both housewares and small appliances weathered the downturn pretty well last year,” Goldman said in an interview with HFN. “The overall growth was startling given the credit crunch and the subprime mortgage crisis.”

ATLANTA—Sales of Remington-branded products fell by 6 percent in parent Spectrum Brands’ first quarter, falling after posting a whopping 35 percent increase in the fourth quarter of the company’s 2007 fiscal year.
In a Webcast conference call involving financial analysts, Kent Hussey, Spectrum’s chief executive officer, said most of the sales drop occurred in North America, and cited “a lack of retailer promotional support.” International sales of Remington products gained 11 percent for the quarter, thanks to favorable currency translation and increased market share.

YOUNTVILLE, Calif.–Almost two years after opening up the first NapaStyle retail store in Berkeley, Calif., NapaStyle will unveil its fifth location this summer, its flagship, at V Marketplace here. And unlike the other NapaStyle locations, the 4,200-square-foot store will have a 2,000-square-foot landscaped patio space for visitors to enjoy wine and food, a specialty wine shop and tasting room, a salumeria, and a dedicated herb and spice area. Tupperware Brands’ Q4 Sales Up 19 Percent

ORLANDO, Fla.–With strong growth in all five segments, Tupperware Brands reported a sales climb of 19 percent year over year (11 percent in local currency) to $577 million for the fourth quarter of 2007.
“We are encouraged with the progress we made in the fourth quarter and the full year in further refining and implementing our strategies, which are working and delivering the positive results we expected to support long-term growth,” said Rick Goings, chairman and chief executive officer. “Our sales and profit were both well ahead of our October outlook.”

SEATTLE–A new style is sweeping through Chef’n’s packaging, as the company wants to “keep our look fresh and hip,” said Sarah English Heitman, marketing director. The new packaging incorporates a boxed concept, as it “allows for giftablity and adds to perceived value.”
Its grind and salad items will be the first categories to have the new packaging, and will be rolled out in the first quarter. The rest of the line will follow afterward, she added.

NEW YORK—Tre Wilcox, the 31-year-old chef who competed on Bravo’s Top Chef show last summer and is scheduled to appear on Food Network’s Iron Chef America next month, has signed on with cookware company Chantal to promote its Copper Fusion line.

Thermolon Merges With Shinwoo Korea

BUSAN, Korea–Thermolon Ltd., the company that manufactures non-stick coatings without the chemical PTFE, has announced it has merged with Korean company Shinwoo Trading Co. Both companies will go under the umbrella of Thermolon, a statement said, and be based here, where it will continue to expand its research and development facility. Its commercial and financial offices will be based in Hong Kong.
Christopher Phillips, Thermolon’s chief executive officer, will be CEO of the new company, and CK Park will become president.

Regal Ware Announces Appointments, Retirement

KEWASKUM, Wis.–Regal Ware has announced the appointment of Luis Rey as president of its Kitchen Fair division, succeeding Gary Stephen, who announced his retirement at the end of 2007. Rey will assume responsibility for directing and conducting all aspects of the business of Kitchen Fair, its line of cast aluminum cookware sold exclusively via in-home sales.
In a related move, Carlos Perez has been named executive vice president of the Kitchen Fair division, having previously been vice president of sales for Kitchen Fair.

Groupe SEB Realigns North American Business Units

CANONSBURG, Pa.–Groupe SEB, the France-based parent of Krups, Rowenta, All-Clad and T-Fal, among other brands, has reconfigured the management of its North American brands.
According to a company statement, the management of Krups will be transferred from Medford, Mass., to here, and will be put under the direction of Christophe de Veyrac, who has become division president for high-end kitchen appliances. De Veyrac retains his existing responsibilities over the All-Clad and Lagostina brands, and the combination with Krups creates a unit that focuses on luxury housewares brands.

Dyson Rolls Out New Ball Vacuums

CHICAGO–Dyson has released its latest Ball upright vacuums, the DC24 and the DC25. Both use Dyson’s patented Ball technology, and the DC24, weighing at less than 12 pounds, is the lightest Dyson upright yet. The DC25 weighs 16 pounds.
Dyson’s Ball technology replaces the traditional four fixed wheels that run on an axle, so the consumer can pivot the vacuum more easily.

SiliconeZone USA’s Karyo Elected to IHA Board

His term begins immediately and ends in September 2010. He is also a member of IHA’s Government Affairs Committee.

The new division offers products made of 100 percent biodegradable and recyclable paper and plastic, which include packaging and shopping bags. Former Vacu Vin Executives Purchase Typhoon U.S.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.–Seven months after founder Peter Battersby bought housewares company Typhoon back from Mark Holden, Battersby has sold the U.S. division to Simon Kirby and Peter Carter, both formerly of Vacu Vin. The new company, called Typhoon Plus, will remain with its corporate offices here, though its warehouse will move to Haywood, Calif., starting in mid-January. In addition, typhoonus.com will become typhoonplus.com and be an information-only site, which will soon be remodeled.

Salton, Applica Come Together as Merger Is Approved
