BENTONVILLE, Ark., and MINNEAPOLIS-In the wake of the controversy regarding racist remarks Paula Deen admitted to, Walmart and Target have ended their relationships with her company, Paula Deen Enterprises.
A brief statement from Walmart said that “we will not place any new orders (for Paula Deen merchandise) beyond those already committed. We will work with suppliers to address existing inventories and agreements.” Walmart has been carrying, on the home side, Paula Deen-branded cookware, kitchen textiles, bakeware, cutlery, kitchen tools, tabletop and candles, along with grocery, entertainment and health and wellness products.
Target said in a statement that it will phase out its Paula Deen products both in stores and online. “Once the merchandise is sold out, we will not be replenishing inventory,” the statement said. Target currently offers Paula Deen cookware and tabletop.
According to press reports, The Home Depot has also ended its relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises. As HFN reported yesterday, licensees Meyer Corp., Universal Furniture and Sleep Innovations have yet to decide how to proceed.
