BEDFORD, Mass.–Colin Angle has been named chairman of iRobot, succeeding Helen Greiner, with whom he co-founded the company in 1990.
A company statement said Angle will retain his current role as iRobot’s chief executive officer. Greiner will continue to serve on iRobot’s board as a non-employee director, and will pursue other interests and opportunities in the robot industry. Together with Rodney Brooks, the two formed the company as a spinoff from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, first teaming up in MIT’s artificial intelligence laboratory.
Among the robot products iRobot manufactures is the iRobot Roomba, a patented line of vacuum-cleaning robots for the home.
