King of Prussia, PA—Designer Chris Madden’s efforts in providing blankets to wounded soldiers in Iraq earned her a presidential commendation from the 2008 president of the International Furnishings and Design Association, Dave Gilbert, in his last official act, a statement said.
Madden became involved in Operation Cozy Comfort after she was contacted by Blue Star Mothers of America to provide a “softer touch of home” to the soldiers, the release said. She approached her blanket vendor WestPoint Home, and soon 500 Chris Madden Plush twin blankets were sent to the Air Force Hospital in Iraq.
The IFDA commendation read in part, “For your efforts to bring comfort to those who sacrifice on our behalf, we salute you.”
In addition, former U.S. Senator and current secretary of state Hillary Clinton said, “It is my hope that Chris Madden’s continued efforts will increase public awareness and inspire others to become actively involved in helping disadvantaged people and strengthening our communities.”
