WASHINGTON–The Consumer Product Safety Commission said multiple firms are recalling millions of Roman shades and roll-up blinds.
The reason for the recalls are that the products present serious risks of strangulation to young children, said a CPSC statement. The commission has received reports of five deaths and 16 near strangulations in Roman shades since 2006, and three deaths involving roll-up blinds since 2001.
The recalled products included shades from brands Lotus & Windoware, All Strong Industry, International Mechandise and store-branded items from retailers including Walmart, J.C. Penney, Pottery Barn and West Elm.,
