NEW YORK-Fab.com launched today as the newest members-only site to offer products for a limited time. Targeting design enthusiasts, Fab.com features daily design inspirations and flash sales at up to 70 percent off. It already has 200,000 members and more than 175 designers and manufacturers on board, the company said.
Fab.com will feature design products in such categories as furniture, home accessories, technology, entertaining, lighting, art, outdoor, toys, and personal accessories. New sales will launch seven days a week at 11 a.m., and run for 72 hours. All upcoming sales are announced exclusively to members through the website and a daily e-newsletter. In addition, the site will have the Inspiration Wall, a communal mood board where members can share and discover design inspirations.
For its first sale, starting today, Fab.com is offering signed posters from graphic designer Milton Glaser, famous for his “I Heart NY” logo; limited-edition Emecco chairs, made out of recycled Coke bottles; designer energy-saving light bulbs from Plumen; and a selection from the Museum of Arts and Design store. Later this week, sales will include product from Italian lighting company FontanaArte; PUBLIC Bikes, a modern bicycle brand launched by Design Within Reach founder Rob Forbes, and a collection of Alvar Aalto vases from Finnish tabletop design house iittala.
“We’re humbled by the fantastic pre-launch reaction to Fab.com from consumers and suppliers alike,” Jason Goldberg, Fab.com’s co-founder and chief executive officer, said. “We never in our wildest dreams imagined that we would launch with 200,000 members on day one and [have] more than 175 leading designers lined up to offer their products on our site. Now, it’s all about executing to our plan and delivering a daily dose of design inspiration.”
Fab.com was founded by Goldberg and Bradford Shane Shellhammer, chief creative officer. A “serial entrepreneur,” Goldberg previously founded fabulis, socialmedian, which was sold to XING AG, and Jobster. Shellhammer is a design industry veteran who has launched retail concepts for Blu Dot and Design Within Reach and is a contributor to Dwell magazine.
Sales are curated by design industry experts like Monica Khemsurov, founder of SightUnseen, editor at Details, former editor at ID; David Branham, Fab.com’s buying director and the former senior buyer for The Conran Shop; and designer Karim Rashid.
