Lalique has introduced a range of Art Deco-inspired furniture and accessories, part of its evolution as a lifestyle brand.
The collection, Lalique Maison, was created by designer Lady Tina Green and Pietro Mingarelli, and was unveiled earlier this spring in the new Lalique Interior showroom in Manhattan. It encompasses everything from hand-embroidered silk pillows and cashmere throws to porcelain tableware and coffee and tea sets to furniture pieces such as a bed, couch and chair. “We wanted to create a lifestyle for Lalique to live in,” said Sarah Gargano, who handles public relations for the brand.
The collection is executed in black and white—a preference of Lady Green and a tie-back to the period in which Lalique founder René Lalique was designing—and has an Old Hollywood feel. Each furniture or accessory piece draws inspiration from iconic Lalique designs, including Grapes, Swallows and the Masque de Femme. The crystal icons are made in France and then sent to Italy to be embedded in the furniture pieces.
Lady Green, the wife of British retail businessman Sir Phillip Green of Topshop fame and the creative director of the interior design firm Argent, has also helped redesign some of the Lalique boutiques. “She’s very much a part of the brand,” Gargano said. “She lives and breathes luxury. She knows what luxury is. It adds an authenticity to the collection.”
Lalique Maison is one of four collections featured in the Interiors showroom; the other collections include classic Lalique pieces such as the Cactus table and the Champs Elysees chandelier; the Orgue lighting collection designed by Studio Andrée Putman, which is expanding into table lamps and candelabras; and the interior design studio, a bespoke service based in Paris that creates custom pieces for specific projects.
