HIGH POINT, N.C.–The American Home Furnishings Association announced Sept. 5 as the deadline for Sage Award submissions.
The award, created in April, recognizes home industry companies that pay as much attention to environmental and social issues as to the traditional bottom line. It is sponsored by Cargill’s BiOH polyols, a worldwide provider of food and other agricultural products and services. Cargill’s polyols, developed from soybean and other natural vegetable oils, are used in flexible foams.
In a statement, AHFA said the award is based on three criteria. These include a firm’s sustainable business practices, such as reducing energy usage and engaging in recycling; its social practices, including promoting “social equity” and awarding employees and suppliers for social stewardship; and profitable growth.
Recipients will be honored at AHFA’s sustainability summit on Nov. 13 in Greensboro, N.C. Winners receive a $2,500 donation to a charitable organization of their choice.
