Webcast Spotlights Design Trends at Vegas Market

LAS VEGAS–Three of the nation’s most eminent designers presented their views of key design trends at last week’s Las Vegas Market during an interactive Webcast.
Hosted by Susanna Salk, design author and “Today Show” contributor, the Webcast featured Barclay Butera, president and chief executive officer of Barclay Butera Inc.; Amy Lau, founder of Amy Lau Design; and Joe Nye, founder of Joe Nye Inc. The three designers identified the following trends at the show:
•Chinoiserie: designs imitating Chinese porcelain with the use of lacquer-like materials and decoration.
•Soft color palettes: softer pastels mixed with splashes of vibrant colors.
•Exotic: hand-embroidered fabrics, pillows and curtains, incorporating global looks.
•Gentleman’s lounge: eclectic mixes of texture and upholstery found in gentlemen’s homes.
•Historical references reinvigorated: old appearing new again with the use of historical pieces.
•Natural materials: materials from outdoors brought inside, with the emphasis on elegant details.
•Palm Springs outdoors: retro-style architectural pottery and wall ornaments, creating a California-look space.
•Sustainable furnishings: artistic sustainable and eco-friendly furnishings reflecting high design and versatility.
•Whimsical wicker: handcrafted looks with sculptural shapes in wicker and rattan.
