NEW YORK–Raffi Megerian, president of Megerian Rugs, was presented with a Gold Medal of Honor for his efforts in revitalizing the handmade rug production industry in Armenia.
The award was bestowed by the Honorable Tigran Torosian, president of the Parliament (National Assembly) of the Republic of Armenia. It marks only the seventeenth time in its history the country has presented a Gold Medal of Honor.
It was noted that Megerian has established more than 20 rug weaving facilities throughout Armenia, creating and sustaining jobs and preserving a cultural tradition. Torosian further commended the Megerian family for maintaining operations in Armenia at a time when the dollar is devalued and production costs have grown.
