CALHOUN, Ga.–Surya has made a donation on behalf of each of its top customer accounts to East Meets West (EMW), an international nonprofit development organization that serves communities throughout Asia. Each donation will provide an impoverished high school student with a one-year scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and regular intensive tutoring.
Overall, as part of the company’s commitment to charitable giving, Surya is making it possible for 200 girls to attend high school through graduation and is providing a four-year college education for five students who would not otherwise be able to afford the costs of higher education.
“We strongly believe in bringing positive change to the communities around us and are excited about the opportunity to help students turn their dreams into reality,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “We are pleased to be able to honor our customers by making a donation that will have a lasting impact. It is my hope that, in the coming year, Surya can do even more to positively impact the lives of those who are less fortunate.”
EMW’s SPELL Scholarship program has provided more than 11,000 high achieving students at risk of dropping out of school due to poverty or social pressure with comprehensive high school scholarships, helping them to graduate and gain meaningful employment.
