ATLANTA–The annual America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards took place at the Georgia Aquarium Friday night, during the Atlanta International Area Rug Market. Manufacturers previously submitted rug designs in several existing categories — handmade, handknotted and power loomed — as well as two new ones, indoor/outdoor and licensee, and the results were announced at the ceremony. Chas Sydney, who retired last summer after 31 years with AmericasMart, came back to help host the event with television journalist Lynne Russell.
The ceremony also honored three retailers with the retailer of the year award: Jordan’s Furniture, Rugs As Art and The Mink Company.
In the handmade category, the winning designs were from: Harounian Rugs International in the $0.00 to $8 per-square-foot group, Jaipur Rugs in the $8.01 to $16 per-square-foot group and Tibet Rug Company in the $16 and up per-square-foot group.
In the handknotted category, the winning designs were from: FJ Kashanian in the $0 to $30 per-square-foot group, Amer Rugs in the $30.01 to $50 per-square-foot group, French Accents in the $50.01 to $100 per-square-foot and Creative Touch in the $100.01 and up per-square-foot group.
In the power loomed category, the winning designs were from: Kas Oriental Rugs in the $0 to $100 group, Oriental Weavers in the $100.01 to $200 group, Dynamic Rugs in the $200.01 to $400 group, Momeni in the $400.01 to $800 group and Michaelian & Kohlberg in the $800.01 and up group.
The inaugural winners in the indoor/outdoor and licensee categories were Loloi and Tufenkian Artisan, respectively.
