ESSEN, Germany–The international design competition red dot is now accepting entries for its red dot: product design 2013 awards. The competition awards products that are well designed and innovative in 19 product groups, including living rooms and bedrooms, households, kitchens, tableware and decoration and lighting and lamps.
Designers and manufacturers may register as many products as they want, but the products must have been launched to the market between Jan. 1, 2011, to July 1, 2013, and available for purchase. The early bird deadline is Dec. 7, 2012, and the registration fee for that deadline is 220 euros (about $282). The regular deadline is Jan. 18, 2013, and the registration fee is 260 euros (about $333) and the late deadline is Feb. 6, 2013, with a registration fee of 290 euros (about $371). The evaluation process will take place in Feb. 2013, during which more than 30 jury members will test, discuss and assess each individual product. The winners will be announced on July 1, 2013.
The 2012 competition saw 4,515 entries from approximately 1,800 companies and designers from 58 countries.
“I have known for more than 20 years now just what our competition means to the designers and entrepreneurs and how enthusiastically they communicate their success and will celebrate it at our award ceremony,” said Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot. “And with good reason. They and their winning products are presented extensively – in our yearbooks, at our exhibitions and in the media.”
